Northern Norway summer 2026?

Hi,
I am planning my fifth kayak trip in Northern Norway next summer. The planned route is from Gildeskål south of Bodø and up to Skrolsvik at Senja. It is a 2-3 weeks trip. I have kayaked a lot alone, but this time I want company for the whole trip or partly. Accomodation is tents and gas stove. Who am I? I am a 62 year old Norwegian. Married and with two grown up daughters. Who are you? I think you have some experience with coastal kayaking and enjoy outdoor life. Curious? Please take a look at Instagram hakon.johansen.180

Keep us posted on your trip plans, perhaps a miracle will occur and I could join you.

Hei! Hjertelig takk for svar! På tur er det viktig for meg å finne en rytme begge trives med, og å ta avgjørelser sammen. Vi holder kontakten!

Do you know Patrick Vuorio? Sweden-based kayaker who posts his worldwide coastal and river kayaking travels, most of them in the Scandinavian countries, on Facebook. He might be a good contact for reaching potential trip partners.

Thanks for the tip! I will contact Patrik Vuorio.

One tactic California Paddlers who want to do the coastline use is to find some small groups on local sections who can only get away for several days, and have good local knowledge. If you had a small group on a protected section I might be interested. I lived in Drammen, Kristiansand and Trondhjem and have taken the Hurtigruten from Bergen to Trondheim and the crossing point of the North Sea and Norwegian sea was really very rough so I expect “sheltered” areas in North Norway can be pretty rough too. Is there a fairly sheltered section between Bodø and Narvik or Narvik and Senja?

The route from Gildeskål to Senja is largely exposed to the open coast, where rapidly changing weather and strong tidal currents pose challenges. However, with thorough preparation and patience, it is possible to maintain a responsible level of safety. My plan is to go with one or two fellow kayakers.
