Sorry folks …link doesn’t work that I posted above !! try handtyping it in . it’a web site with animated knot tying.
bowline, square, figure 8, clove hitch
and half hitches work for me…interesting about the distrust of the square knot… if it ‘capsizes’ it becomes two half hitches around the other part- which is not reliable. however if its backed up by another half hitch, it works. one quality of a good knot is it can be untied.

which is, as any yankee knows, is a knot so very secure that you need to cut i"t off" to release it. also known as the gordian knot.
