Old and New GP

Below are pictures of my old and new paddles. The old one is made by a local woodworker and the blade is very similar to a Betsie Bay. The new one is made by Superior. I can use the old one but it is more difficult (flutters very easily). The Superior paddle by contrast is a joy for me to paddle. And I am faster with it (which causes my wife to complain).

I only see one GP
The other looks to be a double canoe paddle with long narrow blades.

Well put
I’m not at all surprised that he likes the Superior paddle better, as it’s definitely a superior design. With GPs, it’s all about water flow across the blade and the smoother that flow, the better the paddle feels and the more lift it creates. Thin edges and smoothly curved surfaces are the key to top performance.

Never used a Betsy Bay
or a knock-off of one, but I cannot believe that it would be as quiet as a Superior or other well-designed GP.

Superior paddle
The Superior paddle IS just that, Superior! I have had a number of GPs and without question, the Superior is what works best IMO.
