Old Town Serial Number Search?

Hi all,
Thanks for having me on the site.
I’m wondering if I got ripped off. I recently bought what was said to be a 1960’s Old Town canoe. It certainly looks to be that old but a serial number search brings up a chart that says it’s from the 1980’s. Can anyone help find the truth? The number is 260008 16.

If the boat was built after Nov 1st 1972 it will/should have a 12 digit Hull Identification Number (HIN) on the rear starboard side.

If the boat has no HIN then it almost certainly wasn’t built in the 80’s.

I don’t know about Old Town, but serial numbers don’t necessarily identify the year of manufacture.
