No, buying a cheap SOT wasn’t one of them.
Before organizing and leading my own canoe trips, and I’ve organized a led quite a few, I went on a few trips with an outfitter.
They’ve got it down to a science. It would have taken me years, of making blunders, to learn what I learned by going with them a few times.
I strongly advise doing a trip with an outfitter before organizing your own trips.
Even if you’ve already done a number of canoe trips, on your own, you will probably learn something from a professional outfitter.
