One of those days

Today’s sunrise brought what looked to be nearly perfect morning for a not-too-strenuous lake paddle. Air temp in the low 50s, water temp in the high 70s, light <5mph winds, broken clouds and not too humid. But things just wouldn’t click. I adjusted everything I could think of … seating position, posture, paddle angle, cadence, etc, etc. No matter what, it felt as if I was paddling a pallet through oatmeal. Completely frustrated, I gave up after 90 minutes and 5-ish miles.
Have you ever had “one of those days”? I still don’t understand it. Fortunately, tomorrow is a new day.

More than once. You can usually feel them coming but not always. Still, any day on the water.
I’ve had a couple lately that were great starts , then the breeze quit and it hit 95. Felt like paddling across a hot skillet.

I had a run like that last week. It happens.

I haven’t had one of those in a good while, I fear it will soon happen, it always does

I have those days every time I get out of the Tsunami 175 or Tempest 180, and into my fishing boat Aspire 105.

the times I feel like I’m in oatmeal in the touring boat is every time, it feels like they’re not moving at all, until I consult the GPS track and speeds. they’re deceptive in going faster than you think they are going.

Same issue in a surf ski, or a scull, I feel like I’m not moving then after you find that you were flying.

Given a lemon,
to make lemonade,
is not always easy when a peel meets the blade,
dulled by taking,
for in granite you rock,
so the edge you think cutting is wedged in its block,

but drink in not bitter,
and sip slowly away,
in your heavy water you might still have some way,
to flow a respite,
less fruit but with soul,
taking in that next cove a relaxing gunkhole.
(till elixir de Excalibur frees blade flashing once mo.)
