howdy yall.
weekend after next, ive organized a group of 10-20 or so freinds and we were planning on doing a 3day 2 night trip on the jacks fork.... probably prongs to alley spring.
One of the guys in our group has a Grandpa that offered us his house on the current river, in Doniphan Mo. We are probably going to end up there, and save ourselves the hassle of camping on the river. we all know its no biggie with a few seasoed paddlers, but with 15 or so paddlers, and maybe a third of them are experienced or prepared for such an outing (of these paddlers would be half or more of them women/ 20 something girls who have no paddling experience), it would be easier to stay at his house and just do a couple of day trips on the current.
Im kinda worried about the river level on the jacks fork now and id rather not have to babysit a bunch of novices and pick up the slack in gear since no one ever comes prepared.
so ill save my wildernes trips, and good spots for myself and small groups ;-)
anyway... to my question...
I have very limited knowledge of the current river, and im looking for some good day trips.
Anywhere along the current is fine, as we will have our own boats and vehicles to run our own shuttles.
Im looking for the most scenic/ intresting sections... any trips that are around 12ish miles (and any up to 15-20 miles would be acceptable also), and I figured someone on here would know the best spots to go. so PNET....WHATS THE PRETTIEST SECTION OF THE CURRENT...THE MUST SEE SPOTS?
also, if anyone knows of road closures... or any local pro-tips, please post up. ANY INFO IS GREATLY APPRECIATED.
here is a mile by mile descrip of the river, ive been studying it for days and am undecided as to the best trip. Looks like some of the upper sections sound more remote/scenic...? it all sounds good, and im sure it is, just want to get all these sheltered city kids out to see the best parts of gods country. While I have the chance :D

In my humble opinion -
You would be making a mistake floating the Upper Jack’s Fork. With all of these floods, who knows what shape that section will be in. Also, that section takes quite a bit of skill and I wouldn’t want to be responsible for people who didn’t know what they were doing- I posted a trip report from when I went in ealy March (just do search under author and you will find it)
WITH ALL THAT SAID, I’LL FINISH WITH THIS… YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE AND IF YOU WANT TO FLOAT THE UPPER SECTION THEN GO FOR IT!!! IT IS A BEAUIFUL SECTION THAT NOT ALOT OF PEOPLE GET TO SEE.
