PA sail on Canoe

Has anybody used a Pacific Action sail on a tandem canoe? I was looking to get one for a solo trip I am taking in my Ranger Otter canoe.I was wondering how they mount on a canoe,It’s obvious how it mounts on a kayak but not a canoe.I was thinking I could probably mount it on the seat,I paddle the canoe backwards.Anybody have any experiance with this rig?

Thanks

Mike

Wow
These PA sails are a mystery,There website is useless about mounting info.I emailed PA and got no response on a canoe mount.

PA sails on canoes
I use one on my kayak, but the way in mounts on my boat wouldn’t work on a canoe. You could mount it on a seat with minicell underneath it.

Here are some photo’s of mine…

You handy?
You need to build something to hold your sail.

Thanks
I have just the thing,I made a removeable thwart years ago to hold leeboards.Did you find it works better mounted towards the middle of the boat?

Thanks

The sails…
in those canoes are Spirit sails, they mount differently than the PA sail. PA sail has sheets to change the angle of the sail, the Spirit sail has to be lifted up and turned in it’s mount.

My sail is not centered, it’s just past the front hatch.

For downwind sails, location of the sail probably doesn't matter, as long as it is convenient for you to manage. If you consider upgrading it to an upwind sail (for about twice of the cost of a PA sail), you will need to determine the center of effort for the sail (roughly). Since you have the leeboard experience, I would recommend that you use it to avoid sideway movement. Let me tell you, upwind sail is a lot of fun, especialy you are in a reach. You go faster than the wind.
