I’ve been looking at lots of different bent shaft paddles of late. The question was brought up to me today by another paddler…As the lighter the paddle gets, how much do you lose in strength with the shaft of the paddle? For intance, the BB Special bent is 23oz compared to Foxx Worx bent shaft at 16 oz. I’m talking wood shafts here. Not Carbon Fiber.
don’t know about the shaft breaking but
I have had the face of a Grey Owl Sprite split close to the center. It was a tight grained paddle and was never abused. I was just paddling very hard and the paddle was not strong enough to take it.
The Sprite is a very nice and economical entry level bent shaft paddle. Just don’t try to push it as hard as you possibly can.
