Paddling near Ithaca NY

I’m going to visit some friends in Ithaca this weekend, and am bringing my favorite paddling partner and our (sea) kayaks. What are the most scenic and least developed lakes in the area?

Thanks,

Lyn

They’re all about the same
All of the Finger lakes are scenic, but also all developed.

Cayuga Lake, right there in Ithaca may be the best bet, as the steep shoreline in the southern half of the lake has at least prevented people from building houses right on the shore.

The northeastern shore of Seneca is mostly vineyards.

possible source for ideas
check out the message boards at http://www.flowpaddlers.org/ a paddling group for the fingerlakes and http://www.puddledockers.com/ a kayak shop in Ithaca.

Cayuga Lake
Ithaca is at the base of Cayuga Lake which makes for some great paddling. You can put in at a variety of parks along the lake (East Shore, Stewart, or Taugahnock). This time of year there tends to be less traffic on the lake in general. I am possibly heading out on Cayuga Lake on Saturday, send me an email if you want more information.

Thanks for the help
amr, I’ll email you backchannel.
