Find a girls group to paddle with
I too see the competition thing with men, but that’s primarily one of the ways they are wired. That’s why I found a “ladies only” group and we have several camp/boating trips each year, ranging from beginner to advanced waters. We go at our own pace, stop and talk if we want, talk girl things we wouldn’t in mixed company, etc. Our group is made up of 20-70 year old gals from all walks of life. Teachers, stay at home moms, factory workers, social workers, IT personnel, etc. A real mix of professions and rarely do we discuss our work. That stays in the office or at work. Check locally and perhaps your lady can have a day/weekend out on the water with the girls. I know of at least two such groups here in Michigan.
