Try a frisbee
I got in my kayak off a dock and was fiddling around with stuff when I realized I had floated more than an arm’s length away from the dock … and my paddle. Hand-paddling worked in the calm water but it reminded me of an article I once read about something like top 10 uses for a frisbee and one was “emergency paddle.” I might start tossing one in the cockpit.
