Personal Safety

Well what other reason could there be to abandon them completely other then it simply being too dangerous? You’d need situational awareness to know it was dangerous.

The best defense of all is to not be there for the attack. That IS situational awareness.

And a plan B is good and even a plan C and D. In my time as a Marine I can’t count the number of times we went through several modifications of the original plan (We say “no plan ever survives contact with the enemy”) I think a few times I was down to about “plan Q.”

But I am still here.

So improvise, adapt and overcome does apply.
But the point still stands. All adaptations to the 1st plan are going to come under one of the 3 choices I listed.

My wife says that she wants different opinions from different news sources. When you have a source that lied consistently and continues to tell the same lies for 4 years, what is the point of using it as a source of information. That tells me you are shopping for what you want to be true. Doesn’t mean you are, but it erodes my trust in your jugdement. Otherwise, why would you value the view of a info source of dubious character. One example is how anybody has the stomach to watch The View, other than the point of view. I haven’t seen more heinous creatures outside of The Munsters.

(#5) We could also hold the land managers and local governments accountable for enforcing the laws and regulations they expect us to follow…

Agree with Steve, that is interesting. Self defense is more effective if you trust that the person with a gun or knife in your face will be gentle. What was the message to women who are about to be assaulted . . . Oh, I remember, don’t resist. I like that. If you have the means of self defense, youre a bigger threat to yourself. I would like that reference material. Sounds likevthe msyor of Aurora. There is no gang infiltration. The problem is the apartment complex attracts criminal elements . . . What crime is that, specifically.

Situational awareness is a good idea! What kind of plan do you recommend if the threat is between you and your vehicle?

Are you ignorant of what happened in your state that caused the homeless population to move to the federal land you recreate on?

Thank you all for joining the discussions - both positive and negative commenters. This has become quite an interesting social experiment and it occured to me that my posts are problematic to some of you in much the same way that the drug camps themselves are problematic to our communities.

Its as if I set up camp in the woods at your favorite boat launch (metaphorically of course). And I brought several of my closest drug-addled friends (don’t mind the face tat’s inked in jail - we’re really, really great people).

And while you’re out enjoying a nice paddle, we’ll just have a look in your vehicle for anything we can steal to sell for drugs and alcohol (insurance should cover the cost of the new rear window). I hope you didn’t stick yourself on one of the discarded hypodermic needles we passed around last night to mainline our junk (it would be awful if someone contracted HIV or hepatitis from our recreational drug use). Also, to bad about your dog, maybe you should keep her away from all the trash we let pile-up by the parking area.

And oh, don’t walk over there, or there - those are our open air toilets. Say…you sure are pretty, wanna’ party with us baby?

Keep your heads buried in the sand if you want, but its your public land. You’ve paid taxes on it your whole life. Fight to protect it. I am.

Like Dat. It was fun. I’m still curious about why your state moved them into campsites near kayak launches.

Jyak just sent me a snarky DM, but they ask a good question, so I thought I’d share it with the group.

Jyak WROTE:

“Excuse MY ignorance, but what did your state do to attract homeless and then drive them to public lands where they were compelled to attack kayakers. Sounds cruel. Maybe they look down on kayakers and just feel like mistreating them? You know what works best, let them have their way with you. Situational awareness - know you’re about to be sexually assaulted, and go with the rythem. Tell them they are kind of cute.”

MY REPLY:

"Ignorance is not a crime. I am happy to explain what my State has done, but you can also read it for yourself if you like, under the “Why is this happening” tab of homelessdanger2u.weebly dot com.

In a nutshell, Tennessee - like many other states, passed State Law SB 8005, which makes it a crime to camp on State and municipal owned lands. Its a felony now on the first offense. However, there is no such prohibition about “camping” on Federal Land (Forest Service, TVA, etc). The new state law is driving the homeless out of the city and onto Federal public lands and the local governments are ill-equipped to handle it (mostly due to lack of funding). The Federal Agencies have also been slow to respond (its all documented on the website), and when they do respond, its usually to close areas to the general public. This keeps the homeless away for a little while, but they return. It also prevents the public from using these closed areas to launch, hike, camp, etc. The website has much, much more from the last 3 years. Its focused on my area (not just Watauga Lake, but that’s where I live, so I see it here every day). I don’t get anything from website clicks, I don’t sell anything, get ad revenue, solicit donations, collect personal information, or make any calls to action. I built the site to document this growing problem and educate others to what’s happening in my back yard.

Thank you for reaching out to ask me for more information."

That’s funny. It wasn’t intended to be snarky. It was more sarcasm, wondering what kind of mischief your state was engaged in, by the question: "what happened in your state that caused the homeless population to move to the federal land . . . , " but sorry you took it as a snarky slight. The quote was “excuse MY ignorance.” I didn’t know. Now I know.

The Venezuelan gangs supposedly taking over housing in Aurora, CO has been found to be a complete hoax.

When I hear people talking about Communists, Marxists, and Socialists it is obvious they are listening to some serious propaganda. Listen to some different news.

First generation immigrants in the US out work native born citizens. Immigrants also have a lower crime rate.

Some years ago I had a native plant landscape company. I hired day workers from the State Employment office. Most of them were homeless but went to work every day. They slept in a field or next to the freeway. I lived with these people and got to know them. Most had been “domesticated” earlier in their lives. Then things happened like divorce, bankruptcy, alcohol and/or drugs. They suffered from depression. They called themselves tramps because they got paid each day in cash and spent it pretty fast.

They defined “bums” as people that did not want to work and panhandled for money. The tramps claimed that anyone can make a couple hundred dollars day panhandling with a sign if they put in the hours. Most of the signs are fake.

We closed nearly all of the mental institutions in this country decades ago. Some of the homeless have mental health issues and get little help. Drugs and alcohol take a toll on people’s thinking processes. They change brain function.

Have some empathy for the homeless people , because you are not as far from being in their shoes as you think.

Your public lands are being closed to YOU because of the homeless drug camps and you’ll face stiff fines and legal trouble if you violate the closure order.

I think its the part where you said I should enjoy being raped is the problem…

You wrote: "You know what works best, let them have their way with you. Situational awareness - know you’re about to be sexually assaulted, and go with the rythem [sic]. Tell them they are kind of cute.”

That’s vile and says everything the forum needs to know about you.

Cooler full of poop

Do you think they take it to an approved dump station? Or do they clean it out in the lake where you paddle?

Just now, I watched a Newsnation report of the Colorado problem…It’s real…

Your opinion of me does not change the fact that there is a problem of drug camps on public lands that threatens the health and safety of our community.

Keep digging…

It doesn’t change the fact that our favored public lands are becoming dangerous places that are being closed due to human waste and crime from homeless drug addicts.
