We can pull a kayak off front or back, and off the sides, there are no corner posts to deal with.

The main structure is 4 6x6 salt treated posts in a row. The roof is under tension with internal bracing and is cantilevered off a dual ridgepole. The entire rack can and will sway 2-3 inches in 30+ wind.



The arms that support the kayaks is covered with pool noodles and then carpet remnants. It holds 18 kayaks-the FCs are inside.

we just had kayaks canoes and rowing shells here there and everywhere…finally decided to at least get the kayaks in one spot…we did it in winter and at 3800F we had several weeks when we got nothing done at all on the project, even on sunny days sometimes the wind was just too cold to wield a hammer. but its done.

Nice job.
Mine is a full flegged barn - 14 feet x 28 feet with four windows on one side.

We are naming it “the Frog Level yacht club”

All I have left to do is install the front double doors and the windows along with all the boat hangers and racks.

I’ll see if “the bride” will put a couple of pictures on web shots and then I’ll post them.

she has been documenting our slow progress.

Paddling comes first !



Like yourself, our boats are spread all over the place right now, and some are hard to get at.

Especially irksome is the new 23 foot long K-2 which is in the middle of the family room.

I could not find any hooks more rhan 10 inches wide.

I did the same plus…
I put little triangular chocks at the ends of the 2x4’s to hold the boat in place and stapled some old rug remnants over the whole thing. I also cut up a few paint rollers (new ones, I think I spent 2 bucks) and slipped them over the metal brackets on the wall, so they wouldn’t scratch the hull. I don’t have to be too careful hanging the boat, as it’s all nice and cushy.

Heavy duty Arm hanger
Got an email today, and saw this thread was still active. Stopped by Home Depot to pick up dimmer switches, and I checked and they still have them They are in the garage storage/organization area.

Brand is Everbilt “Heavy Duty Arm Hanger”.

A whopping $3.97 each, and they are rated at 50 lbs each.

Sku #3069901252 with a mini 0 before and a mini 7 after.

PVC and UV
Jack, I built both PVC and pressure treatted lumber racks 9 years ago, and both were plenty sturdy. However, the PVC got so brittle from UV that it started to crack after 4 years. The other is still in good shape.

I liked PVC Rack 1
at the webshots album. If I were to make one of those I’d add wheels so you can roll all the kayaks around the shop.
