I plan to make a pvc strorage rack for one kayak (up to 24" beam, 50 lb kayak) to be on its side to save space. The plan is for it to be a 4 foot long with 4 corner posts and lower the kayak into the space (14" or more space) between the posts. I have to figure out a design to prevent it from tipping over. Has anybody ever made one?
Or there’s my lazy way and just plop any kayak on edge into a pair of Stellar Sling Stands which also fold up for compact storage.
See you on the water,

I was wanting it at nearly floor level. The more upright the kayak is, the move likely it will want to tip so j rack style of slightly tilted in one direction might be the way to make it work.
I made some waist-high work racks out of PVC a few years back. The adjustable cam straps allow you to adjust the fit of the boat for size/orientation. For a single boat, it would be easy to modify for height and depth.
Make some cradles you can put directly on the floor.
Lay some blankets down and put the kayak on top of them upside down and stabilize it by stuffing some pillows underneath it. Get yourself an 8’ 2x6 and cut it into four 2’ sections. ( a chop saw really comes in handy for stuff like this) Locate the rear bulkhead and have a friend hold a 2’ section of 2x6 centered on the keel with a 2‘ level on top. You take a small 2x4 scribe block and run it along the boat bottom scribing the 2x6. Cut that out with a jig saw then use it to scribe another one, cut it out and nail or screw them together. Repeat same process at front Bulkhead. Hustle some foam padding and glue it to the top of the cradles. If you want the cradles to be super stable nail or screw a 2’ 2x6 foot on a flat on the bottom of the cradles.
…or you can go sto bote.
