Carpenter bees tunneled into my 1980s Old Town Penobscot 16 seats. Can I fill the holes with wood epoxy and hope the seats retain integrity? or should I just purchase new seats?
Run a wire up the hole and see how much damage has been caused. If not much, fill the holes with epoxy. If lots of damage replace the seats. I have never had any problems with my seats as they have a heavy coat of polyurethane on them. Bees don’t like coating’s.
Thanks Weed; Not sure if this uploaded photo will open. The bee tunnel is about 8 inches long and dead center of one of the legs of the seat. I’m trying JBWeld wood epoxy to fill the tunnel.
I would embed a stainless steel rod in the J-B Weld. Maybe dill into the end and insert the rod through from there.
