I’m going to Alberta this summer, around Banff, Jasper, Edmonton, Calgary, and Lake Louise. I’ve been searching all over the internet for information about river classes/ratings, how long sections are, etc, but haven’t really found anything of much use. I was thinking the Bow river, but again, I don’t know where to start and end a trip. I paddle an Alpacka pack raft, so I’m not looking for anything over class III, but portaging isn’t a problem for anything harder (my raft only weighs 4 pounds). Any information on these areas would be appreciated. Thanks.
Alberta/Bow River
I just happen to read a very very short blurb on the Bow river on page 72 of the Canoe & Kayak magazine’s 2005 destinations.
I wouldn’t go search out the article cause it’s basically useless for info, but it does mention a book that appears to be out of print:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0969961804/sr=8-3/qid=1145382406/ref=sr_1_3/002-2658622-8667246?%5Fencoding=UTF8
It also mentions the mountain parks heritage interpretive association www.mphia.org
Looking at their website doesn’t seem to informative but maybe they publish the book above…

Check out amazon for books, there are a lot of books on spacific rivers many out of print books as well and the prices are real good, I have ordered from them and usually takes between 2-4 weeks for delivery.
Thanks
Thanks for the help.
