Roller Launches

IF SO, tell us your results instead of complaining to no end

The “shining a light” concept is from a best-selling book that’s all about getting results and has nothing to do with individuals getting attention. The concept is simply that if you show the gap between the way things are and the way things should be it creates “creative tension” that tends to pull things towards the ideal state. If the issue got any publicity it might at least put some tension in the system. The approach is also consistent with the Tai Chi concept that sometimes it’s best to “provide your input, and walk away”. Frankly the only reason I bring it up is that it might help the issue, it might give you one way to take action, and it might help you avoid creating more pain for yourself. But I’m just offering an option. Good luck with whatever you choose to do.

You best believe.

Look at the last paragraph at 85, that is how it is done against insurmountable odds, it was masterful, on a fraction, a fraction of the budget and nowhere near the marketing ability. These guys even got a Lieutenant Governor elected based on their opposition to this horrific, corrupt plan.

I do not know why I am even talking to your ass.

You may have discerned if you have read some of which I have written, that this issue does not particularly stand out to me and has been chosen as the hill to die on, it is what it represents. The total incompetence and utter disregard of government and the public officials who populate it. I am not putting up with it anymore and am frustrated by those who do and don’t do anything about it, for they are perpetuating the problem which affects me. The absolute absurdity of this issue is a symbol of all of that. This has been going on for how many years and nothing has been done about it and these launches are continuing to be built? The ACA?

I’m glad we’re on the same page with words…I brought you down to your real frustration with superiority.Just cause you have superior equipment, doesn’t mean the locals should cowtow to the top 10 %. It’s just not worth it …I have 4 or 5 (depending on how old they are $4000 boats and I don’t let anyone but me decide how I put them in the water. Always wet entry, wet exit… Get Real

As usual, totally illogical nonsense that makes no sense, is totally irrelevant to what is being discussed and has no chronology. Congratulations.

The boat in question was bought for $250 because it had a damaged stern.

I just read his post history. This isn’t his first rodeo.

The obvious point he’s missing is that these launches were not installed for his benefit. They don’t exist to allow able-bodied experienced paddlers with nice composite boats to access the water, they exist to allow the disabled and frail to get on the water safely, and most work fine with typical recreational kayaks. I haven’t been anywhere yet where the accessible launch was the only way to launch.

No, no it isn’t.

Just set to “ignore” for two weeks. We’ll see if things settle down by then.

One must believe in logic, you do not build a launch for paddle craft that damages paddle craft. It is entirely possible to build a launch and platform for the handicapped that meets all ADA guidelines times 2, that does not damage the paddle Craft it was designed to launch, smooth fabric for instance. There is also a very simple, inexpensive way to retrofit even existing roller launches to smooth fabric. I could do it myself for under $1,000. If done by a company it would probably cost $2,500-$3,000. See? Logic.

In Maryland we found local jurisdictions very receptive and accommodating when contacted by our Club. They no longer install the admittedly problematic roller ramps. The parks departments and other entities in charge of increasing water access are not all kayakers and it wasn’t until these ramps were installed that the problems became evident. After all, the ADA endorsed them. They worked fine for jet skis and rotomolded boats. Most of the companies installing these ramps started out making launch facilities for other types of boats.

So how have talks with the various manufacturers regarding your design concepts gone?

How have you fared with the jurisdictions in your area regarding these ramps?

Is your class actions suit going to be local, statewide, or nationwide?

Please keep us informed.

You went after me pretty good now you are being civil. Why the sudden change in attitude?

Nothing as of yet, I am still formulating it in my mind. National Class Action against the manufacturers, ideally, manufacturers agree to retrofit existing roller launches so they would not damage boats, it would be super easy to do, if they want to act stupid, nail them.

Oh gentle folk, me thinks it time to quietly move into more sensible waters and leave this person to his Quixotic quest.
