All this talk about cracking composites on roller launches, there is a guy named Eric who I have talked to who started a company called Apex. He is building a Carbon Fibre river running white water Kayak. I did not think this was possible. He said he is building the 1/2 the weight of a Roto-Mold for performance out of Carbon Fibre/ Impact Resistant Epoxy, Kevlar and Foam Core. He said at this weight it does not quite have the impact resistance of a roto, but if he built it the same weight as a Roto it would be way stronger then the Roto. This was real surprising. He is building them more for performance.
