Just bought a teardrop trailer
a month ago. Pull it behind a 4 cylinder Ranger. It did not cost as much as an Airstream! 1/7th the cost in fact. I call it “My RV”, but it’s really just a little trailer to sleep and haul gear in.

I don;t know who the original poster was, but I was seriously thinking about these a couple years ago. My life changed, and I got a condo instead. But, this is the way to camp! PLenty of conventions and stuff.
The only other reasonable alternative to these would be a Roadtrek conversion van:

Dynamic braking
The passage quoted said “locomotive”. Dynamics are not used to stop a locomotive, unless perhaps it is a small consist used in helper service on mountian grades returning down grade for the next turn-around. Dynamic braking is a term referring to a process where the traction motors on the engine are electrically converted to generators and the resulting current generated in slowing a down-grade running train is shunted to resistive load banks and the energy exhausted as heat. There are two air brakes on a locomotive, the “independant” and the “automatic” The independant is used to control the locomotive alone, whereas the automatic is used for the whole train. The dynamics are not sufficiant to stop the train in a reasonable distance. The automatic is used in conjunction with dynamics. This may be called “blended”, I don’t know as its been many years since I “drove” a train. I don’t see much in substance wrong with the Wiki statement.
Scamp
Another nice little travel trailer. http://scamptrailers.com/
I have the 13’ and have enjoyed it for a lot of trips.
Haven’t seen a Kayak
on any of the above models.
I carry mine on
the tow vehicle.
Dynamic braking
taj - this is precisely my point. The article reads as authority, but relies heavily on limited (or dated) experience or knowledge. It is neither accurate nor current.
“Dynamic braking alone is insufficient to stop a locomotive, as its braking effect rapidly diminishes below about 10–12 mph (16–19 km/h) Therefore it is always used in conjunction with the regular Air Brake. This combined system is called blended braking.”
The current crop of AC locomotives can be stopped with dynos only, and we do it all the time - even with a substantial train on level or near level grade. The first and second sentences are therefore not correct. The second sentence is also incorrect, and has always been so, because it has always been common practice to use the dynos alone, without air, and vice-versa to control speed on freight trains.
There’s more wrong with the article, but I didn’t want to stray so far off topic. But my point is that Wiki often gets input from people who are not necessarily current or complete in their knowledge, and this must be kept in mind if one is using it for research. A person who is unaware of this might assume that because of the Wiki platform, it should be more current than anything, but that is not the case.
Sorry I mentioned it, but it’s a pet peeve of mine.
