Hi,
I recently decided that I want to try a fast boat with a rudder after having only paddled skegged boats.
I bought a used Seda Glider. When I went to paddle it I realized that the foot pegs/pedals were not adjustable! They were installed at a set length with a wingnut screw that secured them to an “L” bracket like you would have for a footbar on a canoe. I have never seen a kayak with such a set up, nor have I ever seen a kayak with no ability to adjust the foot pegs.
The guy I bought it from is like 6’3 and I am about 5’8 so this is a problem. I was able to adjust the backband to bring me forward enough to where I think I am going to be able to paddle it, but this is not the way to adjust a kayak to reach the footpegs.
I tried taking drilling the L brackets to put some new holes in it using an angled drill but my drill bit won’t even make a dent in it. I really don’t want to take the brackets out because they will be one heck of a PIA to get back in since the mounting second mounting hole is way deep inside the boat and secured with a nut that would need to be held in place.
Thoughts on this?
I may just replace the rudder system. I don’t know how easy that is. It’s also a super complicated system with strings and bungees, etc. Very odd in my opinion. Also seems like it needs a good amount of adjustment just to get the rudder centered
