shark-shaped kayak

Go to the San Diego Craigslist and key in ‘kayak’ and you will see someone selling a yellow 9’6" kayak that is shaped like a hammerhead shark!

It even has teeth.

I can imagine myself paddling around the local lake swimming area in this but SD is 8 hours away (plus the multiple tanks ofgas to get there and back)

Does anyone know anything about this boat? who makes it? where? etc.

Call Dave 619-507-2696

Hammerhead Kayaks
Website seem to be inactive. Here’s a link to the 2003 site via the Internet Wayback machine:

Skype
On line phone service. London would only cost about 3 cents a minute and the US is free. Costs about $30 to sign up. There are a couple of others out there too.

Someone tried to sell me this
And I didn’t bite!

Weren’t Hammerhead Kayaks
designed for surf? The hammerhead shape was supposed to prevent pearling.

Jim

Well this design went wrong

In Austrailia there is a company that makes surfskis with a small appendage on the hull that looks like a hammerhead and it prevents burying the bow in large waves, not exactly the same thing as pearling.

The head of this kayak would drag into any steep wave you try to surf down the line on, it would be a disaster. You surf almost parallel to steep walled up waves, using your waveside edge/rail to hold you into the wave and your paddle in an efficient beach side rudder to trim. Very often your face and leading shoulder are inches from the wave face flying past at high speed, there is no way that would work with this boat. If it was designed for surfing it was not designed by a surfer.

one of those places that implies information but when you visit, it only gives links to other sites, mostly dealers that have nothing to do with the original quest.

The site is down (and now redirects to a BS page)

HOWEVER... if you use the Internet Wayback Machine you can still see the old site from 2003. There's a piucture of three of the kayaks on the old homepage.

Try this link: http://tinyurl.com/6qf6j9

or of that doesn't work go here: http://www.archive.org/web/web.php - and enter "www.hammerheadkayak.com" and select 2003 or prior from the results.

For the techno challenged…
