Signs of Southern Spring

Killed the first fly in the house.
The goldfish are mating in String Lake,
My 2nd day in shorts
Green everywhere.
Scheduled the first paddle this year.
I’m boat crazy and should know better.
That’s just the start of the list.

My sinuses are full from tree pollen, although the great yellowing hasn’t started.

Live oak leaves fell the past two weeks and the flowerettes are starting to drop. However the pecan trees do not yet have buds so another few cold snaps will happen.

Last of the ice on most lakes is gone.
Chipmunks are out and about.
Robins have been sighted by others but not me as yet.
Spring weight limits on town roads are in effect.
All of this 3-4 weeks early.

Pollen all over my car.

Red maples are releasing “helicopters” into the March winds.b

The split tail kites are returning from South America . Buzzards are leaving and going north.

So for you being boat crazy even though you know better is seasonal? Hmmm. Seems a bit odd.

Here in (southern) Michigan the turtles are out (again, for now) the birds and squirrels have been extremely active for weeks, the golf courses are treating their grass so it doesn’t grow so fast, daffodils are out, and I’m sunburned from paddling. I never remember what’s normal but for me it seems mind-blowing that sandhill cranes arrived in late January because in general coming to Michigan in late January is a bad bet.

And it’s fine weather for blowing bubbles or drawing with chalk.

Signs of A More Northerly Spring

Outdoors:
Wet, wet snow. Deep, sticky mud ruts. The first buds mounded with said wet snow, hopefully not enough to cause branches to break.

Indoors/internal:
Regrets about not having finished some winter projects, creating dread of next year’s growing To Do list combined with looking forward to going paddling again FINALLY.

Sorry, String, but it’s hypocritical to post about spring after intentionally trashing the forum with the gun garbage. You owe the forum an apology.

Good grief, he didn’t trash this forum, and there is nothing hypocritical in his posting. It is fine that you think his thread related to guns is a mistake, but that isn’t sufficient enough reason to expect an apology from a long term forum member with an interesting and helpful posting history.

Thank you davbart. It’s a struggle but I try not to offend. It seems like some go out of their way to be offended.

There’s madness in March air as many brackets fall apart.
Forsooth, forsythia azaelia like Oh Brother.

Brrrrr!

Turns out my previous post to this discussion was overly optimistic.
Ice has reappeared on many smaller lakes, and now…
…WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FROM SUNDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH MONDAY
AFTERNOON…

  • WHAT…Heavy snow possible. Total snow accumulations between 6 and
10 inches. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph leading to blowing
    and drifting snow.

And then, yesterday (March22, 2024) I found this:

I though about putting this in ‘Pretty Pictures’ but …
