I’m starting my skin boat and was wondering about coatings. I know about 2 part urathane but has anyone used elastomeric paint or some other coating and why? It is going to be a nylon skin.

No doubt by now you’ve gotten several responses on qajaq USA. Most of your real skin boat experts are going to be over there.
Just for one opinion: I’ve got a two-part urethane coated 8 ounce ballistic nylon Greenland boat and honestly, I can’t imagine a better coating for it. The stuff is bombproof – strong and smooth. Hard to improve on it, I think. It seems to be the product of choice for the majority of builders.

I use plain oil based poly. About four coats (less than a quart). It has worked fine and is easier to use than the 2 part.
