Snake River

Anyone ever paddle the Snake River from Jackson Lake Dam to Moose. I can’t seem to find any info on this section of the river any info would be much appreciated.

Here is some general information from the park service, notice the link to the more detailed map. The last 10 miles before moose I believe used to have class III with some sections above that, fast moving channels with strainers. That was 48 years ago when I was an Explorer Scout, so may not be relevant now at all.

Another site to check out in your browser, American Whitewater Wyoming, scroll down to snake river and select from Jackson lake to moose, 26 miles, listed as class Il. You will need a park permit, available at Teton np visitor center and an invasive species permit for Wyoming, get online? The only part of that run that I’ve done is the oxbow. Kind of a hassle paddling in the park due to the permits. Wyoming seems less on it than Idaho for invasive species, but being in the park, unlikely they are going to cut you any slack. Views of the tetons are good!.

Thanks for the info. I checked and the ES sticker is only $10 and the inspection only takes about 3-5 min. but I think it’ll be well worth it. I just need to figure out what month I should go don’t want to get into something I can’t handle since I use sit on top kayak.

If you drive through Idaho to get to Tetons and you have out of state plates and no Idaho sticker on your boat, you might get hassled by law enforcement for inspection, especially true if coming from California, Oregon, Washington and Colorado. I think you can get the Idaho sticker for $7 online. You can check average monthly flows online. June before the tourists hit full blast is OK if run-off is not to high. September early October are nice if the water levels are still OK. It gets cold in the Tetons even in mid summer some years so be prepared.
