I got bit by a Rattler about that size, it just hung on my finger
Copperhead that size bit at me thumb when I was about 13. Hit thumb nail and flew out in the lake.

Ringneck. Found in detritus on the ground. I was pulling weeds from the garden and he was in them. After the photo session, he went back in the flower bed.
A cute little critter. Thanks for returning him alive to the garden.
The only time I have ever killed snakes was when I had young children and found copperheads in the yard.
They have a valuable function and want nothing to do with us.
