Will be in the Orangeburg SC area in early August and am looking for information on either the Edisto River or Congaree near Ft Motte. Any suggestions on camping, the better of the two to paddle.

Check the USGS streamflow data the week before, if the Congaree is down there may be sandbars to camp on, but I don’t remember how far upstream - There isn’t much in the way of access other than the bridge on 601 and sawmill landing, and I think the river must have changed course and sawmill landing isn’t there anymore, didn’t look like it last time I was down there. You might want to try upper Santee swamp instead, Sparkleberry landing over near Rimini is the closest access, may be a bit different from your typical river trip.
The Edisto is great - dark and reptilian. You can rent screened platforms to camp in on one segment, I don’t remember the link, but a search on the web should turn it up.
