boats could be the wave of the future, any manufactuers out there listening? wait, my buddy says the vinegar+baking soda people are looking to expand the simulated volcano biz and are hot on this idea.

very light, fast and disposable boats
could potentially be made out of whatever alka seltzer is made out of. the advantages (in relatively short races only, of course) would be tremendous- not only would you gain speed from the bubbles, but the boat would actually weigh less and less as you got closer to the end. plus there would be the added incentive of knowing you had to finish before the hull broke apart and dissolved completely! i for one would like one with those little orange colored crystals mixed right in, like in the “severe cold formula” ones.

re: alka selzter
I heard a similar rumor, but it involved lining the hull with tablets to induce supercavitation and reduce drag. The rumor is, of course unsubstantiated, but the theory behind supercavitation is pretty cool:

Alka Selzter Fishing Lures
I know we’re getting off the topic here but you guys are on to something, just scale it down a bit. I use Alka Selzer attached to fishing lures for large mouth Bass. The things are kind of self propeled and the fish really go for them. Try it, is’s a lot of fun especially on top water lures.

Sharks skin versus kayak skin
They say shark skin is very hydrodynamic but if one would run their hand down a shark, the skin would feel like sandpaper. Hmmmm, with all the scratches and scrapes and burs on my plastic yak, it seems like I should be flying across the water.
