Spring Ozark Rendezvous - Buffalo River

Okay @RenaC , you have been through it, what can people do to prevent from having to do this?

I still say the recovery from surgery like this must be very challenging. But it is amazing of the recovery powers of the human body.

Stay in shape, don’t age and don’t ask silly questions.

There is no such thing as a silly question, that is a well accepted concept…There is such a thing as a silly statement however. That makes you the King of two things.

Well I would say you’er the king of 2 things too… jackasses and having too much time on your hands…Show some respect…not to me…

Maybe I can spend another couple nights at Ozark enroute to NM. Won’t be paddling.

Mozark, would love to see you, it has been way to long. FYI - we typically go to Low Gap one night, I would think either Thursday or Friday. Nice that it’s now just right down the road in Jasper.

Dick,
Seeing you is always a highlight for all of us! Rob and I will be there Wednesday afternoon sometime. Hope to see you there.
Pam

My plan is to be there Wednesday morning for paddling that day leaving Sat morning or Sat night. I have been on PNet for a long time and have always wanted to join in these spring/fall trips including the WI River trip since that is closes to home. Working 2 jobs (college tuition/saving for retirement), kids in school, bad hip and kind of lost the luster to canoe kept me away. I am still working the 2 jobs but all kids are in college or done, left hip was fixed Dec 20th, and I’m trying to see what level of canoeing I want to do now and in retirement. Ventured to Rutabaga to test drive some Swift canoes and to WPASCR last year to try Savage River and Hemlock boats. As you can see I am escalating my efforts.

I have not been camping since Iowa Project AWARE in 2017 so I need to purchase alot of things. No canoe rack on the prius, sleeping pad, maybe a tent etc. It will be a mad scramble that is for sure to get ready. I won’t be much help with the shuttle, driving a prius, but I can pay for gas, help load/unload and carry canoes, and help wherever is needed.

Hello Dick it has been a long time. Dick and I had a contest one cleanup on who could grab the most tires in a single day. I think his total was 20 and I had 16.

I wish I could join but my wife and I are already committed to another trip. A group of us spend a week in the Ozarks every Fall and we’ve never hit it when there’s enough water in the Buffalo. We generally end up paddling one of the spring fed rivers to the north that always have water.

Perhaps you could attend the Fall 'vous. We’ve always held that on the Current River which is more heavily spring fed. Often the Baptist Camp to Cedar Grove section is too dry in Fall, but otherwise there’s always been enough water there.

My husband and I will be there Wednesday but not in time to paddle. We’ll paddle Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Look forward to meeting you.

I got about half way there - before I have a failure in my transportation medium. Instead of continuing the journey, I am stuck in Vermilion, Alberta. Canada for the next week waiting for parts and repairs. Thus I miss another year on the Ozark rivers with you folks.

Damn - Sorry to hear. I was looking forward to paddling with you again. If its any comfort I just had a failure of my upper suspension control arm… $. But it is under control now. Automotive problems confront everyone, I guess. Too bad it hit you just now, though. Didn’t you have another truck stored in Montana? So close.
Good luck with it.

The other truck you remember is presently on consignment with a dealer in Western Oregon, but unless it was here in Vermilion AB its too far away for the truck I’m driving to get there - it overheated in just 5 miles of driving! Meanwhile, the repair parts have arrived and I have a service appointment Monday morning. Sadly, I couldn’t get to Jasper from here before next Saturday at the earliest - its still over 2000 miles from where I’m sitting. Now, if the Fall Rendezvous were to be scheduled a week or two earlier than usual so I could get back home before winter (and below zero temperatures) I might have a chance, but even might is a crap shoot - there were already below zero reports in mid-October last fall.

Look forward to seeing folks, looks like a small group again, but no matter how many people come we’ll still have a good time. Note that there is rain in the forecast for Tuesday-Thursday, looking like the largest percentage is Wednesday. Rob and I will be bringing hiking gear in case the river is too high on Thursday to paddle (hope not). We will arrive Wednesday afternoon.
Safe travels!

I plan to arrive hopefully by supper time on Wednesday. No need to arrive early due to the rain.

Planning on arrival early afternoon on Wed. Since Linty can’t camp yet due to her recovery from her fall, we’ll be staying at a rental in Jasper. We’ll check in to the rental and then go to the campground. We’ll probably hang at the shelter there - assuming rain - and see everyone there. I’ll do what I can to help folks to try to speed setting camp in the rain. I’ll bring some rainy day beer. We can take it from there. Let’s hope the river doesn’t go into full flood mode and drops quickly.
Safe travels everyone!

The goal is to be there late Wednesday afternoon, but as history has shown that’ll likely get pushed back. Hopefully we don’t have a repeat of the last rendezvous on the Buffalo. I’ll bring my hiking shoes and rain slicker just in case though.
