i’ve heard this term used in relation to kayaks and surfskis. on a glass boat, what and where is the stringer?

hey Andrew, Bruce told me that my Fenn had a foam stringer that ran the length of the boat down the center of the boat. It was brought up in a conversation where I asked about cutting a hole for a hatch (I never did)…he said it would have to be offset from center or possibly cut away part of the stringer… I have no idea how wide it is, as I never cut the hole…
