style of boat

New to the sport and a friend gave me a boat which is 12’ long and 25" wide well at least those are my measurements it is definately older, it also has supports that run from the cock pit to the bow and stern and I’m trying to find out what kind of boat it is, it has what looks like to W’s stacked on top of each other, and I was searching the internet and it kind of resembles a perception peroette but don’t know if that is what it is or not, so if anyone has an idea let me know what kind it is (rec., touring, play) or what brand it is, and if you think this is good for a beginner

Thanks

K

what is the HIN?
there should be a number from the manufacturer engraved in the back. That will help out.

It sounds like it’s probably an old
style river kayak. Whether it would be good for a beginner depends on what kind of kayaking you want to do with it. It would probably be okay for easy rivers, and for surf. If you want to go very far or very fast on flat water this would not be a good choice. If you want to go in the ocean, other than playing in the surf, this would not be a good choice. It would be very good for taking to the pool and learning to roll.

yeah he’s right
sounds like some sort of an old school river runner type boat, support pillars are a dead giveaway of that. 12 ft is a long mofo so must be quite old. if it can get in it and feel locked in it should be good to learn rolling. something that long will go fine in flat water, but wind may make it a b*tch to track straight.should do easy whitewater.

Post some pics on webshots…
I’m sure somebody can ID it for you.
