Our buoys are now texting us!

I tried it for the Little Traverse Bay buoy and it sent me the wind, wind direction, gusts, air temp, water temp, and wave height.
While I can pull that info in quicker using a bookmark on my iPad, it was still fun.
On the other hand, the USCG mobile app gives the same info nationally.
Cool! I was told last week that someone is trying to set up a new buoy system in the Gulf of Maine that might mitigate the lag waiting for satellites with stuff like epirbs. Haven’t had a chance to follow up.
Cool. I’ll look forward to the service being implemented local to me in … oh, say 5-10 years from now.
