suwannee river paddle

Im trying to locate some information for a weekend paddle. I saw a youtube video where someone put in at white springs and paddled about 12 miles to Woods Ferry camp ground. Now the first thing is I cant find a white springs campground. Im thinking they might have meant Stephen Folster culture recreation place? Anyone know for sure? Also where can I get a way to see if I need to reserve a campsite? I have tried going to a site and it redirects me to kinda confusing Florida site. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Im trying to plan this for labor day weekend. Probably Saturday thru Monday. TIA. And I did try a search in the message boards first.

We race the Suwannee River every year. If you are looking for a site at the Stephen Foster Folk Culture state park, go on reserve America. We love that park and stay there, but I am guessing it will be all booked for Labor Day weekend
There are some nice paddle in sites heading down river and I think they are first come type.
Also Stephen Foster State :Park is down river.
Call or e-mail American Canoe Adventures (ACA) in white Springs and talk to John. He should help you out

They probably meant the bridge boat ramp at hwy 41 bridge just south of “downtown White Springs” . See Suwannee River Wayside park.

The river camps specifically Woods ferry are accessible only by water. So if you wanted to paddle there and take out… bad plan…if you wanted to camp it is free.

Regardless use the White springs Gage on the Suwannee River Water management district for paddle conditions. The elevations between 50 and 60 are good. Today it is 53.38 ………OK

See ………… http://www.mysuwanneeriver.org/realtime/river-levels.php

Also go over this web site for information on the river and level guides.

If you go farther down, below Brandford, the White Springs gage is a little off .

A favorite camp trip of ours was/is ,

  1. Launch at the Hwy 41 bridge in White Springs.
  2. camp at Holton creek River Camp. Note Holton creek has sulfur water.
  3. camp at Woods Ferry River camp.
  4. Take out at Suwannee River State Park in Live oak.

Each leg is about 10 - 12 miles.

A better trip adds another day. On those we’d reserve and cabin (they are by the boat ramp) . Spend the night and then paddle the next day to Dowling Park boat ramp at hwy 250.

For sulfur water aereate, boil, make coffee with it, or lemonade. You can also filter some of the river water. Stephen Foster State park is also at white springs and a little down stream from the boat ramp.

If you wanted to camp then paddle. Camp at Stephen Foster State Park in White springs. You will have to call them about leaving the car there. It is a popular park and camp site reservations often go out a year ahead.

  1. camp at Stephen Foster State park,
  2. paddle the next day to Holton Creek River camp.
  3. Paddle the next day to Suwannee River Springs ramp near/before the old hwy 129 bridge or the Suwannee river Music Park ramp $$. This is a bad leg since it adds nine miles past Woods Ferry. aka a 20ish mile day. The water level 53 feet will make this slower than a 60 ft day.

This is a less desirable plan I wouldn’t do it. Camp Friday night if you must. If you can’t get a state park site you might be able to camp at a private RV parks south on hwy 41.

Best to launch Saturday morning…………see trip a few threads back.
