Tempest: adjusting the Skeg & leak

One for your clip board … and question
… one of those plastic clips for the deck rigging popped out while putting some 303 on the deck … seems that the bolt was not on … bolt and washer were still in the compartment (large rear one), so it was easy to fix. Checked all the bolts on the boat … found a few just a little lose.

This might explain the few drops of water I’ve been noticing in the rear compartment … checked the skeg cable … no leak there. Was figuring it could be drops around the hatch that were flipping in when pulling off the hatch.

Also noticed two blemishes in the hull … look like small creases in the glass … about the size of a quarter … neither appears to be structural in any way … can only be noticed at an angle (303’ing the hull, using the sunlight at an angle to make sure I wipped it all off). Is this normal for a glass hull?

baby butt

Tempest 170 Pro
Have an 06 170 pro and have noticed the stainless(I Hope) fasteners on the carrying handles bungee retainers rusting. Paddle salt water but have washed the kayak down up on returning from every trip. Whats up. The kayaks only been used 3 months. Also interested in skeg photos.

Steve … just sent some pics …
… both areas are smooth as a baby’s butt … they appear to be cosmetic … curious what you think.

Had a plastic 170 for a year or so …
… no rusting … used in salt water and rinsed after every use as well. Cleaned if every 2 -3 times out with Simple Green and used 303 3 - 4 times …

pics
let’s trade. you send me one of the rust and I’ll send you one of the skeg.
