Bigger than any wave I’ve ever seen!
That is an incredible amount of power.
Both look quite terrifying.
The underwater Nazare Canyon comes right up to the cliffs then abruptly ends. This allows massive open ocean swell to suddenly encounter a drastic change of water depth, which leads to waves that would normally break at 1/3 the height of the monsters. Pretty interesting sea floor geometry that produces these unique waves.
We had a great wind event on the west coast last weekend and I was out surfskiing in solid 10’ seas thinking how big those waves were. Now multiply that x11… nuts.
