The "Google Doodle" of the Day

I got notice of that from the Facebook Inland Kayakers group and passed it along to some others in the paddling sphere too. Google used it to honor Native American’s Month but what’s shown is really a Greenland (not American) kayak, tuilik and paddle, Though there really isn’t a big cultural boundary between the Greenlandic peoples and those of the Canadian Arctic and there are over 50,000 Inuit in Alaska (but their boat and paddle styles are somewhat different). Still nice to see some public recognition of these traditional craft.

The image reminds me a little bit of the woodcuts and drawings by American adventurer, author and artist, Rockwell Kent, who lived with the Inuit in Greenland for years and documented their lives and traditional tales. A couple of his qajaq images:
