KayakerBee, I said IF you make your own foam seat, then you need shaping tools. Yes, they are small and cheap. They are still needed, IF you make it rather than buying a stock foam seat. Pygmy used to supply a ThermaRest pad with their kits, not what I would want for a seat.

The class you took at Pygmy was not free, either. That cost plus associated travel costs would have to be included, thought I don’t doubt it saved time and some mistakes if you had done it all on your own.

A friend who built two strippers said they are easier to build, but take more time.

Nobody is arguing that selling an amateur homemade kayak is unlikely to be profitable.

When I built my first one I went ahead and built a second one mainly because I already had a mess and the set up.
I sold the second one and figured I made about $1/ hour not counting the little incidentals like sandpaper. rollers


and varnish not to mention the hassle of shipping.
