Threat to the Okefenokee Swamp NWR

I have been fortunate enough to paddle and camp in the Okefenokee Swamp on several occasions. It is a wildlife paradise. It isn’t a wilderness that has been untouched by man, but it is a wild place and special ecology. A refuge that allows the wildlife to thrive, and people to explore and observe. This wasn’t on my radar and thought I would bring it up here as I know many have paddled there.

Mining a swamp!!! The cost/damage/loss/benefit factor doesn’t even make sense. It defies logic.

Yep, we’ve been fighting that for a while now.

The Okefenokee is an amazing place to paddle and camp. Additionally and probably more important than the recreational opportunities, it is an awe-inspiring, beautiful natural wonder. It’d be a shame to see it damaged.
