Last year our Stellar Sea Kayaks ended up getting dented from being on the hard points on the Thule Hullavator. The bottom of the kayaks is pretty flat and after being left up there on a not day, the honeycomb design of the composite material got dented. This year, we decided to avoid this issue by building a support that would sit between those hard points and cushion the bottom of the kayaks. We build a wooden plywood frame that sits between the two hullavators and lifts the kayak just enough to get it off the points and sitting on the plywood covered in carpeting instead. We will be heading off to paddle downeast soon. But even with this new system, we will be sure to drop the kayaks to the side or take them off when staying at the campground.
