Trak 2.0 - what's NOT to like about it

TRAK claims to be shipping quite regularly now and claims they have resolved their issues. I am still happy I bought a used one 2 years ago, its a good boat and I enjoy it but I would never buy from Trak, they “appear” dishonest to me, they may not be as people are getting their boats but they sure have a bad reputation.

Having said that, when I bought my 2.0 kit upgrade (again used) they did honor the warranty, at least in words, never had a chance to use the warranty as the boat is pretty well put together.

They are taking full price orders now for the next production run with claimed delivery in May 2024. But according to the update below, they are still struggling to fill orders placed before 2023. So if you order now, I wouldn’t expect May. Personally, I wouldn’t be confident about getting anything in 2024.

Most companies who build to order take a deposit to get in line, but Trak are asking full price and haven’t been truthful about delivery dates. They are using customer money as a zero interest loan to finance their operations while promising a boat in the future. As long as the business is steady, you’ll get your boat. But if demand wanes and they get into some difficulty, I worry a lot of buyers are going to get stiffed.

Based on everything said in this forum I have decided to order a Trak 2.0 kayak. I have found a shop in The Netherlands, called Outdoorxl. After having contact with them I ordered one and it got delivered a few days later. If anybody needs a Trak 2.0 kayak and doesn’t want to wait, I can highly recommend them.

Hi Everyone,

I’m new to this forum, and don’t want to feed any drama, but since I have just taken delivery of 2 TRAK 2.0 kayaks I thought I would provide current information on the kayaks and delivery and service.

I’ve been in communication with TRAK since the last week of October 2024. Most emails are answered within a day. Longest took a week when the individual I was in communication with was away on a trip, but I knew that he would be out ahead of time. Since the beginning of 2025 communication has been very prompt, almost all responses within 24 hours and frequently the same business day.

We did a demo paddle day in Seattle November 23, decided to purchase a week or two later, and ordered for the Jan Delivery.
We took delivery of both kayaks at the end of Jan, and TRAK was very good about working around our travel schedule so we could be sure to be home when they arrived.
Fedex beat up the boxes, but everything inside was fine. Both boats arrived in perfect condition, along with the Greenland paddles and some accessories.
Hip pads were delayed, but I knew they were backordered, and they arrived 2 weeks after the boats.

The boats themselves are great. Have assembled and repacked them a few times (which goes very smoothly; the you-tube videos are worth watching) and paddled them and they perform really well. Feels just as fast as my Necky Elaho, and the adjustable rocker is amazing. I think the adjustable rocker and the portability/flyability are the standout features. Sprayskirt, dry bags, sea sock all are very well made and work well. Be careful putting on the sprayskirt, it’s easy to get the all-black-webbing grab loop accidentally tucked inside when putting on the sprayskirt. I’m going to add a brightly colored ball to the end of the grab loop.

We got some generous discounts for ordering in conjunction with one of their trips, but this is an independent review.

One other thing, of course I asked about the negative information and supply chain/delayed delivery issues before ordering. TRAK was very upfront about the problems they had experienced during the pandemic, and my experience, I think, suggests that they have corrected those issues now.

Their delivery issues and quality problems occurred long before the pandemic. So using that as an excuse doesn’t really fly.

Sorry, my mistake. The “during the pandemic” was MY assumption, not anything TRAK told me. I thought I should correct that to clarify that TRAK was not using the pandemic as an excuse in their explanation to me.

Good to know they finally caught up with demand.
