The seat back is about 2-3 inches above the cockpit. I was thinking about replacing it with a back band.
Has one done this? What do I need to do to get the original back out and the new band in?
Suggestion on the back band?

Tempest back band kit
I just made this modification on my Tsunami 145. I bought the Tempest back band kit. You will have to remove the seat completely to remove the original back. Once you have the back off it’s pretty easy to reassemble. You will have to drill a few holes at the rear of the combing to support the back band. I haven’t tried it on the water yet but so far it fells really good. It also makes it easier to get in and out of the kayak.

P.S. Because I needed more leg room I used flatpick’s suggestion and move the seat back two inches which I like a lot but I was still not able to use the factory rudder system. So I installed the Sealine rudder which works well.
yep,… 'cept
you don’t have to take the seat clear out. UNLESS you want to move it per fatbelly’s suggestion. just remove the aft 2 seat bolts to get the strap released. the rest of the P3 hardware comes out with a knife and screwdriver. there should be revised directions in the tempest backstrap kit.
if not hollar!
IMO- waaaaayyyyyy better performance with back STRAP!
