Turtle Flowage or Sylvania Wilderness?

Hello all,

Looking for suggestions for a late may 3-4 day kayak camping trip. Just trying to put two new sea kayaks through overnight camping trials before hitting the big water, so I have been thinking of Turtle Flowage in upper Wisconsin or Sylvania Wilderness in Upper MI. Haven’t been to either. Looking for quiet, wilderness experience (I know this isn’t that far in, but as much as possible given the choices), more sandy landings than rocky landings, and options to day trip paddle out of a base camp.

Let me know if any of you have any thoughts or experience you would be willing to share.

Thanks!

Sylvania

is nice because you can stay in the campground and reach just about every part of the park as a day trip. Sandy beaches are common there too. I've not been to the other place so I can't compare.

Don't forget to day hike through the old growth forest. It's pretty amazing.

Read my Review
I wrote a review on Trout Lake in Northern Wisconsin. Not exactly wilderness, but either are the two places you mentioned. I live in the area and have been to all three. Of the three, Trout Lake has the cleanest clearest water. It is very nice. Read about camping areas in my review. If you’re looking at Memorial Day Weekend I could possibly join you. If you’re looking for big water, Trout has a lot to offer. If we get a good wind that weekend, the waves can buildup pretty nice in some areas and are really fun to play in. With 18 miles of shoreline and most of the lake in a state forest it’s very beautiful. Let me know what you think.
