Does anyone know if someone is looking at manufacturing kayaks with ultra high molecular weight polyethylene layups? Brand names are Spectra and Dyneema.
If you search online, you’ll find a few companies who make folding kayaks using Spectra/Dyneema fabric for the skin. I don’t know if it’s possible to use it in a conventional layup, as almost nothing sticks to polyethylene, so delamination could be a significant problem.
BTW, Spectra and Dyneema are the same product; it’s just marketed as the former in the US and the latter in Europe.
