it was kind of awful for everyone
It’s the little things. But the guy’s tone put everyone else on a bit of an edge right off the bat. There were a few relative newbies there who were doing fine until he started to struggle, at which point they all started to become preoccupied with the conditions. I felt bad for the guy when it was all over, and I hope he found some introspection.

Leaders have to REALLY be experienced paddlers to know what the downsides of a paddle might be…over the group-think, especially with the highly positive attitudes of youth, especially with a kayak…where a capsize is not anything abnormal. On a trip out in the true outdoors, with a small craft advisory…??
