Updated Valley Canoe Products Skerray

I have two yaks, an '06 CD Sirocco and a ‘99 Valley Skerray. The Scirocco is RM and the Skerray is fiberglass but older technology and not really lighter than the Scirocco. I’ve just spent my first day in ocean surf in NC’s southern outer banks and I’ve settled on the Skerray as the better fitting, slightly more initial stability boat. I can roll it more easily and feel comfortable flinging it around. I’m 6’ 225 lbs. Before I Craigslist the Sirocco back home in Pittsburgh I’d love to find another Skerray for my wife/sons but it’s out of production. Anybody familiar with the Skerray and it’s successors or comparable boats?

Thanks!

If you wife and sons…
… are also 6’ 225 - and have similar physical attributes and abilities to you - then go ahead and find something similar to the Skerrey for them.

If they are not your size, that Sirocco (you may be a bit heavy for) might be more to their liking.

Size/weight will greatly impact your impressions of various kayaks. What you find to be better/more stable/etc will not feel the same to others or match their needs as well. My gear don’t cut it for my gal and vice versa. She’s a LOT smaller - AND has a lower COG. Stability is a non-issue for her in sea kayaks, while size/fit/weight all are.

skerray update
Excellent point. I’ll have the boys in the Sirocco today and see if it’s not more stable for them at 2-3f" less height and 60lbs less.

Thanks

Valley Aquanuat is what they need.

Valley will build you a Skerray
They will build any of their discontinued boats that they have molds for. You can get their newer, lighter layup, too.

Being reasonable again!!
Oh my god Greyak. Being logical and knowledgeable again!!

Man, remember Paddlers buy on feelings loyalty and impressions!!!

: > )

I loved the Skerry!
It’s still one of my all-time favorite boats. Heck, and I’m only 5’8", 150 lbs. Of course I had a 3 inch thick foam masik that I used with it but it was a joy to paddle and roll.

"Valley Aquanuat is what they need."
CD1 has a point. The Skerry is out of production because it has been supplanted by newer models.

The Aquanaut series is excellent and you may find one even more to your liking.
