Upper Delaware Claims It’s 49th Victim

On Wednesday, February 15th, two men ages 19 and 21 went fishing from a canoe near Sparrowbush. The canoe capsized. The 21 year old made it to shore, the 19 year old did not. His body was recovered 22 hours later. This is the 49th drowning between Hancock and Sparrowbush sincce 1980. The water temperature was 37 degrees. The victim was not wearing a PFD.

i’ve paddled the Delaware many times.
there’s nothing on that river (but for a few spill dams that shouldn’t be run in a canoe anyway) that should capsize a boat. rank beginners i guess who got in trouble cuz they went messing about in a boat with no knowledge of what to wear or how to paddle it.

A no-PFD drowning is a non-event.
