What a great dog. Its suppose to be 111 here today and I still can’t my dogs near the pool. They are scared of water. I love the picks.
You say our country is being sold off to the highest bidder. I think China already owns us.
There are some signs of that.
I think I need to send my dog to rattlesnake school because he will get bit the first time he finds one I think.
I think most dogs have a natural sense for those things. Not something I would like to test. I would like to thank you and everyone else for all the good information and answering all my questions.
Just to touch on the water issue we were discussing. I found out the alfalfa being grown in Kingman is being shipped to Saudi Arabia. I heard it is illegal to grow it there. It uses too much water for them to grow there. IMO someone is getting full pockets.
You’ve got that right. As I said above, growing a thirsty crop like alfalfa in the desert makes no sense except to those with a vested interest in the practice. Just follow the money.
Pleasure horses or what are they feeding it to?
Arabian horses. Huge point of pride over there.
Fondomonte, which is owned by one of the largest dairy companies in Saudi Arabia, bought vast tracts of desert in western Arizona on top of a massive groundwater aquifer in part because there are no regulations on how much water can be pumped out of the ground. Anyone who buys or leases land there can put in a well and draw water.
FWIW
I know they love horses but I’m not sure there are enough to create that demand.
Another lake between you and Phoenix is that
“Woodgrave ?” Lake in the Mogollon Rim region (we’ve not gone but it looks interesting on YT)
Hmm. Didn’t know about that purchase. That is not about the horses they have over there. It is about their ability to retreat to a haven in the US.
Beautiful lake. I never heard of that one. I have a friend that lives in Show Low. I’ll have to ask him about it. He tells me there a lot of lakes in his area. We have considered moving there before the water becomes an issue in Kingman.
I googled Woodgrave lake and can’t find anything. Are you sure of the name?
Perhaps Woods Canyon Lake? Small, but a gem. Fast forward to 4:00 in this 7 minute video unless you want to also watch the drive to the lake. Park Service site says “high” to “very high” fire warnings in this area at the moment.
Very nice. looks like its NE of Pason.
Yup. This end shown looks peaceful but it does have a tiny marina and snack bar so not as “wilderness” as that view appears.
They make air bags that fit the front of kayaks. Most any kayak suppier should have them. Look up Top Kayaker. 603-323-6016 I know Tom has them. He can tell you what one fits the yak the best.
I’m going to put that lake on my list of places to try.
I think an air bag designed for that purpose will fit better than the exercise ball. But I’m sure they would both work.
Woods Canyon I think.
On the Mongollon Rim?
If adding ballast to level the boat out and make it handle better, make sure that whatever you use is well secured. Having the ballast shift can be a disaster. Rather than stabilizing the boat I have seen shifting ballast cause a capsize.
I can see how shifting ballast could cause a problem. I think I figured out how to make this tandem kayak work for single paddling. Its a bit of work because its an older model. When I first tried it I slid the front seat back as far as it would go but I was to far forward. It made it almost impossible to control. I think I would have been better setting in the back seat. I have since learned with drilling some new holes and moving the foot braces it will work pretty good for single paddling. With the extra weight capacity I will be able to carry any extra gear anyone might have. I’m in the prosses of installing a bulkhead like Jyak suggested.
