Good video from Headwaters Kayaks (Northern California shop) on how to set up a crossover kayak (in this case, a Dagger Katana) for ocean use. Some crossover boats make good play boats in the ocean surf and rocks, but there are some upgrades you should do from stock to make them work.
Some of these changes (especially deck lines and float bags) are ones worth considering for recreational class kayaks also.
