Virginia Day Trips?

Can anyone recommend some interesting touring kayak day trips in Virginia? (Flatwater or Class I max). I’m in Richmond, so pretty much anything but southwest Virginia is doable. I’m interested in the Shenandoah River–perhaps from US 17 in the Winchester area to a good take-out spot.

Mason Neck
I used to live in DC, and often paddled in Mason Neck State Park/National Wildlife Refuge. Depending on when you go, you are sure to see lots of herons and bald eagles. It’s an easy drive from Richmond.

Here’s a few.
It depends on your definition of “interesting”, but my site has brief trip reports and maps of some paddles I’ve done. They are all flatwater/sheltered bay type trips.

CASK (http://www.caskva.org/) is also a good group to team up with.

and finally, Bay Trails (http://www.baytrails.com/) does numerous guided trips.
