I was at our county fair last week and going thru the home show building I noticed a lady selling Tupperware and she had a new product line I hadn’t seen before and it looked like it would be great for any number of uses on a paddle boat. The product is a self contained water tight silicone bag of varied sizes. Sold as one piece and in sets of different sizes. Some of them can even be cooked in with boiling water etc. I first thought the smaller one would be perfect for phone and car keys etc. They looked like they would pack down flat unlike Tupperware boxes without the lid to worry about.
Funny you said that LOL. I used to have lots of Tupperware that she bought at parties and I always complained about it as 40 years ago it seemed really expensive for what it was and I used to tell her we can go to Kmart and buy the same thing for 1/10 the price. The strange thing is some of that 40 year old Tupperware I’m still using and it still seals. The Kmart plastic stuff is way long gone in some landfill. So I guess I was wrong as hard as that is to admit.
I was looking at the samples at the fair the lady had and she was telling me all the ways you could use them and she never came close to kayaking. When I told her what I would use them for camping and boating she said I never thought of keeping water from going in only to keep liquids inside from getting out. She said she was going to add camping and boating to her talking points. I told her I wanted 10% for the idea.
Stasher has been making silicone zip close bags for quite some time now, might even be the pioneer in the design. https://www.stasherbag.com/
I use one under the bungees in front of the cockpit for snacks to keep my carb consumption up during long paddles. Never had one leak (as long as I close it properly!), easy to clean and easy to open and close with wet fingers. They stay flexible in cold temperatures.
Don’t know how they compare in price with the Tupperware ones, but you can find Stashers at many grocery stores, REI or direct from the company.
The Stasher bags look quite similar. The only difference I can see is how they close and seal. I haven’t tried ether bag so cant say if one is better. The Stasher looks like a lager version of a zip lock bag. The Tupperware ones looked like zipper teeth only real large and molded out of the silicone.
